City of Gweru is urging residents to refrain from turning undesignated areas into dump sites. The council is concerned about the proliferation of illegal dumping grounds around Gweru which pose serious health and environmental risks to the community.
The Council has identified several areas that have been turned into unauthorized dump sites including roadsides and riverbanks. These areas are not only eyesores, but they also attract pests, create unpleasant odours and contaminate water sources.
In an interview, the City of Gweru Director of health Mr. S.L Sekenhamo, encouraged residents to use legal facilities and report any instances of illegal dumping to the authorities to avoid these mushrooming dump sites which are causing serious health risks.

The council is in progress of moving the dump sites away from the residential areas to the new dump site along Lower Gweru Road.
